Staff and student volunteers representing Community Hospital of Huntington Park showed up on a warm morning Aug. 6 to take part in an event hosted by the Weingart East Los Angeles YMCA.

Known as the Community Resource & Backpack Giveaway, the event included blood pressure screening and blood sugar testing offered by the Community Hospital of Huntington Park team.

“This was a great opportunity to partner with the Weingart Y in service to our community,” said hospital CEO Matt Whaley. “There was a great turnout – demonstrating community need for the school backpacks for youth and for the other services provided, including our health screenings. We are proud to extend our service to the community beyond the walls of our hospital in Huntington Park.”

Assemblymember Miguel Santiago (District 53) invited the hospital to take part in the event held at the full-service YMCA location.

“We look forward to taking part in future events with this YMCA, which shares our commitment to the community,” Whaley said.
